- Implementation intention: "During the next week I will do X in Y"
- 2 most common habit cues: time and location
- use the following format for implementation intention:
- When X arises I will perform Y habit
- eg. When I get a ping on Teams, I will wait 5 minutes before looking at it.
- "People who make specific plans for when and where they will perform a new habit are more likely to follow through."
- Implementation plans wipe away the fog of war and provide the clarity needed for action.
- Many people feel a lack of motivation to complete a habit when in reality it's a lack of clarity that enables the habit.
- Being specific about what you want and how to achieve it helps to say no to the things that derail completion
- We often say yes to little requests because we're unclear with ourselves on what we should be doing instead.
- Diderot Effect - One things leads to another (negative)
- Habit stacking - One habit enables successful completion of the next (positve)
- After I do {current habit} I will do {new habit intention}
- The keys to any habit development is the cue.
- Clear cues remove ambiguity that leads to indecision and unfulfilled habits.
