I remember reading the book *Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes* years ago and being shocked at how easily cultural influences affect how we read the Scriptures. Reading *Atomic Habits* this morning, Clear connects the same cultural influences to our behavior and habits. The desire to belong is an ingrained motive in humanity. From the very beginning, we've lived among others. This also means that we quickly imitate the culture around us whether consciously or not. We begin to imitate the habits of those closest to us (friends, family, etc.) the more time we spend in their presence. Knowing that we imitate these people and their habits, we should be striving to surround ourselves with people we see as we want to see ourselves. If we want to be relational, we surround ourselves with people we see making strong relationships. If we want to be wise we don't surround ourselves with fools. The culture that we place ourselves in, has a strong impact on who we become. So I ask, who are you becoming? and who are you surrounding yourself with to get there?
